The Best Chrismas Pageant Ever

Mid October, Hayley decided to audition for one of the South Carolina Chidren's Theatre productions, The Best Chrismas Pageant Ever.  We have been taking her to see SCCT plays for several years now.  She has always shown interest in drama and would ask me after every play, "When can I be in one of those plays?"  I decided to let her try out one of the process acting classes that SCCT offers, and she has really enjoyed going to it each week.  When the auditions for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever were announced, they allowed younger children to audition since the cast called for many children of different ages.  I was a little reluctant, not knowing what I was getting myself into and worried about her getting her feelings hurt if she wasn't chosen.  She auditioned with many others for the part of a baby angel and read from a script in front of the director and her assistants.  I was amazed that she seemed very comfortable and not nervous at all.  Several days later, she found out that she was casted as one of the six baby angels.  She was so excited!

Well, I have found out that I didn't know what I was getting into!  Her rehearsals have been very busy, and I don't think I realized what a commitment those cast members (and their parents!) make when they are in a production, but it has been worth every minute and tank of gas I spend driving downtown.  Hayley has been "glowing" ever since she got this part.  She loves to be on stage and was really excited to find out she gets to wear two costumes and would wear a microphone when saying her line!  She has seen how much team work and dedication it takes to put on a big production.  She has enjoyed watching the older cast members, and they have been great role models for her.  I think this experience for her is priceless and something she will always remember.  I am so proud of her confidence and willingness to try new things.  The show will run for two weekends at the Peace Center's Gunter Theatre.  We are so looking forward to her first performance coming up on Saturday!  Break a leg, Hayley!
