Much of our summer this year was spent at practices, meets, and social activities for a SAIL swim team nearby. Hayley's decision to give swim team a try turned out to be a great experience for her and our family. When she began practice in mid-May, Hayley could barely swim free-style. While Hayley is a great swimmer, she had not had much stroke development at all. By the end of the season, Hayley had learned all four strokes as well as how to dive off the start blocks. She improved so much that her coaches presented her with the "most improved" award at the end of the season banquet. It was an appropriate award to recognize all her hard work at practices that were twice a day and meets that were each week. Some people warned me of the time commitment and obligations that go along with being on a swim team, but we all enjoyed the experience of watching Hayley improve and getting the chance to meet many nice families. We are already looking forward to the next swim season!
