Our Thanksgiving holiday was wonderful and relaxing this year. Hayley and Ella celebrated Thanksgiving at school on Monday with a yummy feast for their classmates. Hayley enjoyed the variety of food and savored each item on her plate. Ella, on the other hand, barely touched her food at all. Once she saw her mommy and daddy, she wouldn't eat anymore. I think that she was just so excited to have her parents visit her at school.
Hayley is dressed in her Indian vest and headband that she made.
Yum, Yum! Time for the feast!
We spent Thanksgiving Day at my parents' house this year. My sister, her husband, and their two adorable boys come to Greenville each year for Thanksgiving. My mom always put together a great traditional Thanksgiving meal. She makes a great turkey, dressing, and corn pudding, but her sweet potato casserole is always so yummy and my favorite! We always enjoy getting the "cousins" together and watching them interact. It's always a lively time! My girls talk about their cousins often and look forward to each visit with them. Ella is especially fond of her Uncle Tod and told me several times that she was "thankful for her uncle Tod 'cause he's funny." The kids spent most of the day jumping on my mom's neighbor's trampoline. We were blessed with a day with mild weather, perfect for some outdoor jumping! Overall, it was a great day full of family and food!
The day after Thanksgiving, our family began a new tradition of going to the mountains to cut down a Christmas tree. We wanted the girls to be able to see where the trees come from and enjoy choosing one to take home. We went to Waynesville, NC to Boyd's Christmas Tree farm. We had a great experience. They were very organized, knowledgeable, and willing to help. The employee's there really tried to make it a memorable family experience. The girls enjoyed running and playing hide and seek among all the trees. After finding the perfect tree, one of the employee's took a family picture and then cut it down for us. While we were waiting to have it loaded on our car, we went into a tent to enjoy some cookies and apple cider. Yummy! We took some great pictures and had an awesome day. We will definitely be returning to Boyd's farm next year!
Decorating the Christmas tree is always an adventure with two little ones. We enjoy pulling out the ornaments and remembering all the different ones we have collected throughout the years. Hayley and Ella had a great time placing several ornaments on the tree and finding the "perfect spot" for them. (Mommy had to sneak behind them and spread them out a bit!) When it was all decorated, we were pleased with our hard work. There is just something really beautiful about a fresh Christmas tree.
